SWPL and BBC Alba announce historic TV deal
Record number of live Scottish women's football matches announced, with more to come
BBC Alba have unveiled seven live SWPL games, ensuring a record number of Scottish women’s football games will be shown on television in one season.
The Gaelic channel, who have already had four live games in the first part of the season, begin again with Celtic against Glasgow City when the top flight returns on 4 April. It will be the first time City have played at K Park since a 2-1 defeat in February 2020, but since then Scott Booth’s side gained revenge with a 2-0 win over the Hoops on the opening day of the season.
Both the Old Firm derby on 21 April and the Edinburgh derby on 2 May will also be screened live, with Rangers, Celtic and Glasgow City all featuring three times each, with Spartans and Motherwell also being shown once apiece.
The live schedule goes up until 9 May, with the promise of more fixtures to be shown.
“This is without question the most competitive SWPL season ever and it’s fantastic to have a broadcast partner that is committed to helping us grow the game,” said SWF Chair Vivienne MacLaren.
BBC Sport Scotland will also show a live game every Sunday, with their chosen games yet to be announced.
