SWPL 1 to return on 4 April
Updated fixture list to be released on Friday 12 March after top tier of women's football given go ahead to return
The top-flight of the Scottish Women’s Premier League will return on 4 April, with clubs committed to completing the full 21-game season, the SWF have announced.
And a new fixture list will be released at 10am on Friday.
However, there is still no news on if the SWPL 2 or other tiers of women’s football in Scotland will be allowed to return.
“This has been the most competitive season in the history of the league and we’re confident that will continue as of Sunday 4th April,” said Scottish Women’s Football chair Vivienne MacLaren.
“Our priority now is seeking a return for the whole of the girls’ and women’s game as soon as safely possible.”
Seven of the 21-games have already been played, with Rangers leading on goal difference ahead of Glasgow City, but the league was postponed in January with no football below the Scottish Premiership and Championship allowed due to Covid-19 restrictions.
The extended season now means the final fixtures will be on 6 June, with all domestic leagues required to inform Uefa who their Champions League entrants will be a week later.
However, should the league be curtailed again, final league positions can be declared after two full rounds of matches based on the covid contingency rules agreed by all clubs.
