SWPL 1 & 2: Anyone's Game's predictions
The team predict who is going to take home the trophies this season
The season is finally upon us, after the longest……actually, pre-season was really short this year. But we’ve still missed it, and we’re glad it’s back.
Can Glasgow City really make it 15 league titles in a row? Or are Rangers or Celtic destined to be crowned champions?
Or, is someone going to surprise us? Hibernian have strengthened, Hearts and Motherwell have new coaches, and Aberdeen are back in the big time. Spartans, too, have now gone semi-pro to make it more interesting, and not forgetting Hamilton and Partick Thistle who are no mugs after strong SWPL 2 campaigns last season.
Some of the Anyone’s Game team have made their predictions for the new campaign. It’s head on the block time….
Robbie Hanratty
SWPL 1
Winner: Glasgow City
Runner-up: Rangers
SWPL 2
Winner: Dundee United
Runner-up: Kilmarnock
SWPL Cup: Aberdeen
Scottish Cup: Glasgow City
I think the gap between the top three and then Hibs and Spartans in fourth and fifth will be a lot less than the 19 points that it was last season. Hibs have recruited well in key areas and have a great blend of experience and youth.
I also think Aberdeen and Hamilton will surprise a few this season. Bayley Hutchison is a natural finisher and guaranteed to get the Dons goals.
In terms of relegation, last season Hearts were spared by the league restructure and I can help but think it'll be them and Partick fighting it out at the foot of the table.

SWPL 2

Runner-up St Johnstone
SWPL Cup: Hibernian

Glasgow City to be runaway league title winners, Celtic and Rangers both to challenge again. Hibs to be better than last year, Spartans to be worse. Hearts to go down with Partick, Motherwell to narrowly survive.

SWPL 1

SWPL 2
Winner: Dundee United
Runner-up: Glasgow Women
SWPL Cup: Glasgow City
Scottish Cup: Celtic
I haven’t predicted Rangers or Hibernian to win anything, but I think both will be strong this season and will not only be in the title mix but could be in the cup finals too.
Grant Scott is an excellent coach and he’ll get Glasgow City firing and may well claim the SWPL Cup too before he makes way for the new manager. And Fran Alonso has proved himself to be tactically astute and even though on paper Glasgow City and Rangers maybe look stronger, the wily Spaniard could split them again and maybe even win silverware into the bargain.
At the bottom, I genuinely have no idea, I don’t think it’s a division with a weak team this season. But maybe Partick will be the ones to finish last since they weren’t expecting promotion so soon.
In SWPL 2, Glasgow Women to cause a surprise and get into the play-offs.
