Robin Gallagher 'buzzing' after first Glasgow Women & Girls goal
Gallagher netted as Glasgow Women maintained their seven-point advantage in battle for second in SWPL 2
Glasgow Girls’ Robin Gallagher was “buzzing” after her first goal for the club helped Craig Joyce’s side maintain their seven-point advantage in the battle for second place in SWPL 2.
The February signing from Stirling University scored the opener in the 2-2 draw with Kilmarnock on Sunday.
With third-place Boroughmuir drawing with St Johnstone they were unable to close the gap, while they remain eight clear of Kilmarnock, albeit both have games in hand.
“Coming off last week’s win [over Boroughmuir], it was a great feeling to get that first goal,” Gallagher told Anyone’s Game.
“Even though it was just a tap-in, a little bit of a scrappy one, I was just happy it went in the back of the net.
“In training I’ve been trying to get myself more involved with goals and get myself further up the pitch, and I think all of that’s paid off. All of the girls started great in the warm-up and it’s all paid off for everyone.”
“I think [the last two results] set us up well. The girls have got to remember the focus is to try and gain promotion. We’ve got to remember that and go into these next seven games with the intention to get three points in all seven. We’re going into St Johnstone next week hoping to win.”
Sophie McGoldrick also netted with a superb lob and head coach Joyce was full of praise for his side.
He said: “I’m absolutely delighted for Robin getting her first goal for the club and Sophie McGoldrick doing what Sophie McGoldrick does and scoring goals. She’s a real quality player.
“I’m absolutely buzzing for the girls. We didn’t win but I’m proud of their performance.”
