Malky Thomson: 'Not a chance' Rangers giving up on SWPL title
There is “not a chance” that Rangers are giving up on the SWPL 1 title despite falling six points behind Glasgow City, said head coach Malky Thomson.
A Priscila Chinchilla double ensured champions City defeat Rangers 2-0 on Sunday, with the Ibrox side dropping to third in the table behind Celtic.
But ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Hearts, Thomson believes that with seven games to go there will still be twists and turns in the title race yet.
“There’s a lot of games to get played,” said Thomson. “Lots of things will happen.
“We are going to be playing Wednesdays and Sundays now, there’s going to be a big demand on players.”
Sunday’s loss was Rangers’ third of the campaign; being defeated home and away by Celtic earlier in the campaign.
But Thomson wants his side to continue their attacking intent in games, with his side still joint-top goalscorers in the division, with 53 in 14 games.
“A combination of missed chances and poor defending gave us a mountain to climb,” said Thomson of Sunday’s defeat to City.
“We’ll take the game to everybody. We’re a team that want to go and win, we want to entertain.
“We still have the same attitude to try and win the next game and the next game and the next game.”
