Draw 'probably fair' admits Grant Scott as St Johnstone draw with Boroughmuir
St Johnstone 1-1 Boroughmuir Thistle: Elvie Mclean goal denies hosts all three points
A draw was “probably fair” believed Grant Scott after his St Johnstone side were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Boroughmuir Thistle to leave their promotion hopes hanging by a thread in SWPL 2.
In a pulsating match at Riverside, the hosts led through Morgan Steedman before Thistle captain Alix Hogg Wilkinson hit the bar with a penalty.
However, Elvie Mclean slotted home the equaliser to continue the Edinburgh side’s six-game unbeaten run in the league, and leave Saints eight points off second with three games to go.
“I thought it was a good football match, two teams that were evenly matched throughout,” Grant told Anyone’s Game.
“I felt we had some good spells, and they had some good spells.”
Scott praised goalkeeper Becky Cameron for an inspired performance, describing a wonder save to deny Mhairi Smith a certain goal as “unbelievable”.
“She got down really low and to have the presence of mind to push it to the side, that was a certain goal otherwise,” said Scott.
“If I am honest, I felt we created the better chances, as in out and out chances on goal.
“Overall, it was so close in the game that a draw was probably fair.”
