Zoe Ness: 'Impressive' squad depth key to Rangers big win over Spartans
The “impressive” squad depth was key to Rangers’ 5-0 win over Spartans, said striker Zoe Ness.
The Scotland international netted as Malky Thomson’s side remained top of SWPL 1 on goal difference.
Kirsty Howat hit a double, with Lizzie Arnot and Claire Gemmell also scoring to hand Spartans their heaviest win of the season.
“It’s really what we want in the team, especially in every training session,” said Ness. “It’s very competitive.
“We want players in our squad that are going to be competing for a starting place and obviously we know that they’re going to add quality to the team, so that’s something that’s really been impressive today from our point of view.
“We’ve got that in our team as well that we're not relying on one person. The pressure is kind of spread across the full team so it's really pleasing and puts us in good stead going forward.
“I think the goals that we've scored are a wide variety of goals and so that was really pleasing as well as a team.”
The positive atmosphere around the Rangers squad at the moment is understandable given their impressive results so far this season, but the players are remaining focused on their own performances as they remain level on points with Glasgow City.
“I think it's important for teams to concentrate on themselves,” she said. “So to be aware of what's around us, but also be concentrating on ourselves, and that's something that we're reiterating every day.
“It's important to know about the other teams, but more important to know about what we're doing, and that's something that we’ll continue.”
