Hibs 'due something' against bigger sides - Dean Gibson
Hibernian are close to getting a result against one of the bigger sides, believes head coach Dean Gibson.
Gibson was frustrated as his team fell to a 3-0 defeat to Rangers in Penicuik on Wednesday despite an encouraging showing.
On Sunday they face SWPL 1 leaders Glasgow City, who have won both clashes between the pair by a single goal this season.
“We keep saying it, we’ve never played bad in what you would consider the big games,” Gibson told Anyone’s Game.
“I’m not going to say our luck is going to turn because I’ve said it so many times, but we’re due something and it might be the case that we actually play bad and get a win, or we get a point or something.
“If we play how we played against Rangers I’m confident we’ll take something out of that game.”
Two Carly Girasoli headers gave Rangers a 2-0 first half lead, before Brianna Westrup added a third to put the game beyond Hibs.
“Two set plays killed us in the first half,” said Gibson. “After 10 minutes we really got to grips with the game, our game plan was working, we were frustrating Rangers.
“We’ve given away two soft goals, we’ve switched off. Maybe on Rangers’ part it’s something they’ve worked on or identified something in our set-up. But in terms of open play I don’t think they had a chance in the first half. We had maybe three or four what you would call half chances; opportunities to test the goalkeeper. They’ve never done that to us at all.
“Second half, until the third goal went in and took the sting out of us, we looked more likely to get the goal than they did.
“They’re a quality side with quality players and if you switch off for a second they’re going to hurt you. But I’m proud of the players the way they played.”
