Hibernian have momentum ahead of Rangers clash - Dean Gibson
If Hibernian can repeat their fine performances over the past few weeks then they have what it takes to compete with Rangers, believes head coach Dean Gibson.
Hibs host Rangers this evening in Penicuik on the back of four games unbeaten.
And although Gibson admitted he was less than impressed with his side’s showing in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Motherwell, he feels his side have reached a good standard in recent games.
“We’ve worked hard over the last few weeks, we’ve gone four unbeaten, we’ve got a bit of momentum,” Gibson told Anyone’s Game.
“And for the first time we’ve got a bit of luck where the result has gone our way when it probably shouldn’t have.
“They [Motherwell] certainly had chances and credit to our goalkeeper, she made two big saves. I’m not going to make excuses, we know how hard the game is going to be on Wednesday and we need to get back to the level of consistency we’ve shown in the last few weeks if we’re going to be able to compete.
“And if we can do that, which I’m sure we will, it’ll be an interesting game.”
A close-range strike from Eilidh Adams early into the second half was all that separated Hibs from Motherwell, as the Leith side moved up to fourth in SWPL 1.
“I’m disappointed,” said Gibson. “Obviously not in terms of getting the three points, but from my point of view we were below our usual standards.
“But we have had such a heavy schedule. I’m not saying it’s an excuse for us, it’s for all the teams. Naturally there’s going to be games where your performance levels drop. I don’t know if our performance levels dropped or if Motherwell made that happen. Sometimes it’s easy to say you played bad - maybe the opposition just played well.
“We definitely didn’t deserve to lose the game, a draw would have been a fair result I think. But we’ve been on the wrong end of those results too many times this season so we’re not going to complain about the three points.”
