Goalkeeper injury "galvanised" Dundee United - Hart
Dundee United recover from loss of Lauren Perry to stay on course for unbeaten league season
A first half injury to goalkeeper Lauren Perry helped “galvanise” Dundee United to a 3-0 win over Glasgow Women, said head coach Graeme Hart.
The Northern Ireland international had to be carried off moments before the break after landing awkwardly on her knee, with defender Cassie Cowper having deputising in goal.
Despite being a keeper light, an own goal from Katie Andrews and strikes from Robyn Smith and Rachel Todd continued the SWPL 2 champions’ unbeaten league season.
“When Lauren goes down injured, we actually had four players put their names forward right away,” Hart told Anyone's Game.
“We had Tammy [Harkin], we had Rachel [Todd], we had Jade [McLaren] and we had Cassie but Cassie was adamant she was going in goals.
“I don’t know if it was because she didn’t want to run anymore but that kind of made the decision easy.
“Obviously in the end it’s probably a fortune decision from myself - there’s no tactical skill involved in that one.”
After a goalless first half, Hart believes it was the sign of a “special” group of players that they were able to produce a blistering second 45 minutes.
Hart said: “I think you’ve just got to credit Glasgow for the fast start they made but also our players for overcoming that.”
