Glasgow Women 'shouldn't be here' - Craig Joyce

'Let's not kid ourselves, we're punching' says Glasgow Women boss

Glasgow Women being in second place is exceeding expectations said head coach Craig Joyce.

A “hugely frustrating” 10 minutes in Sunday’s defeat to leaders Dundee United allowed Boroughmuir Thistle to draw level on points in the battle for a play-off spot.

But Joyce believes his side being where they are is remarkable in itself.

“Let’s not fool ourselves, we’re punching”, Joyce told Anyone’s Game.

“When you get to the business end of the season, everything’s a cup final. Especially when we are in the position we are in.

“We shouldn’t be there. It should be the teams with the big names, but our girls have got something about them.

“They’ve got something special about them and they are doing ever so well which we can’t take away from them.”

Glasgow Women were level at the break, and faced a United side who had to play 55 minutes without a recognised goalkeeper.

But an own goal from Katie Andrews and strikes from Robyn Smith and Rachel Todd continued the SWPL 2 champions’ unbeaten league season.

Joyce added: “I think we more than matched them over the course of the game apart from that 10 minutes where we decided to step back from the game.

“You cannot do that against a team that scores goals. We can’t step off them because everytime we have played them has been close.

“I don’t think it was a 3-0 game. I think it maybe flattered them a wee bit.”
