Celtic proving doubters wrong - Kelly Clark
Celtic are proving “all the doubters wrong” says captain Kelly Clark as her side attempt to wrestle the SWPL 1 title from champions Glasgow City.
Fran Alonso’s side beat Hibernian 1-0 on Wednesday to remain three points behind City with two games to go.
And Clark believes this is the best Celtic have been in her time at the club.
“We’ve definitely never challenged in the league like this I don’t think,” Clark told Anyone’s Game.
“It’s so great that we’re still so close to the top. I don’t think that many people expected it, but we’re happy to prove all the doubters wrong.
“I think confidence is high and team spirit is high and I think that is absolutely massive. I think that again that’s been shown against Hibernian and they’re two things that are really critical when you’re not playing well.
“So the confidence is high, but to be honest I think more important aspect for me is the togetherness. I think it’s unbelievable that there’s people willing to put themselves on the line for other people. It’s a real team spirit that I think has played a huge part in our success so far.”
Caitlin Hayes’ first half header earned Celtic a crucial three points in Edinburgh on Wednesday to make it 11 games unbeaten for the Hoops.
That sets up two battles for Celtic; trying to catch Glasgow City and also attempting to stay ahead of third-placed Rangers, with the prospect of Champions League football for whoever finishes in the top two.
And they go into Sunday’s game with Forfar knowing that anything less than a win would allow City the chance to claim a 14th consecutive title when they play Spartans later that afternoon.
