Celtic 'got the ball rolling' with win over Hearts - Sarah Ewens
Celtic needed to “get the ball rolling” says striker Sarah Ewens, after they beat Hearts 3-0 at K Park on Sunday to get back to winning ways.
After a goalless first half, Rachel Donaldson broke the deadlock before Ewens helped herself to a double.
And Ewens said the squad were keen to make amends after the 3-0 defeat to Glasgow City the previous weekend.
“In terms of performance we just weren’t on the ball, so it was really important to pick ourselves back up,” Ewens told Anyone’s Game.
“We’ve got a lot of games coming up and we really needed to get the ball rolling and get a good run of form.
“I thought we played well [v Hearts], especially in the second half. We were unlucky in the first half; we just didn’t create enough but definitely in the second half we came into our own and played some good football.
“Delighted we got the goals; it was a good performance to take us into next week.”
It could have been a hat-trick for the Celtic striker, but her header soon after the break crashed off the woodwork.
Celtic travel to Spartans on Sunday, with the Glasgow side winning their first meeting this season with a narrow 1-0 win back in November.
Fran Alonso’s side need the three points to keep pace with SWPL 1 leaders Rangers and Glasgow City, with Celtic still five points behind their Glasgow rivals.
She said: “I was disappointed with that one off the post. I don’t usually score with my head so delighted I got one.
“It’s two goals and it keeps my confidence up. I just want to help the team and we got the three points in the end so delighted with today.”
